The Job Search Process > Step 1: Self-Assessment

Self-Assessment means just what the name indicates... It's a review of your likes, dislikes, preferences, skills, and interests, values and personality as they relate to your job or career options.
A very simple way to begin the assessment process is to write down a list of things you would do for free just because you enjoy doing them so much. Then review your list and see which of the items listed could offer you job or career possibilities. Remember, you spend approximately one third of your adult life involved with job or career issues. So do yourself a favor, and find something you truly enjoy!
How EUREKA can help... We can help you with this self-discovery process in several ways. We offer three assessment strategies that may assist you in assessing your self in a way that will lead you to jobs or careers that will fit who you are. One very fun and simple assessment is True Colors. It is based upon personality theory, and gives you an assessment based on personality preferences. Try it now for free!

MicroSkills and the Occupations Questionnaire are the other self-assessment strategies available to you as a member of EUREKA.org.
MicroSkills is particularly useful to the job seeker as it gives you a perspective of transferable skills. It will assist you in seeing how skills gained in one work environment can be easily transferred to another.
The Occupations Questionnaire assists you in understanding the labor market and how your work preferences and attitudes affect your career options. We like to call it a "reality check" assessment tool. The results will provide hundreds of career possibilities or zero possibilities, it all depends on how you respond to the questions asked.
You will receive a list of related careers or jobs from each of our assessment strategies, thus providing you with a new career direction you may want to pursue.
