The Job Search Process > Step III: Taking Action

Once you identify the direction you want to pursue, you will need to develop your resume. This is a very important aspect of your action plan. If you are pursuing positions that require different skills, do a resume for each position. I have received resumes that you can easily see were massed produced. Non of the people that sent these kind of resumes were interviewed.
Another component of your action plan is to decide if you need additional training. If so, you may wish to register for classes. Other action steps include carrying out information interviews, researching openings in your field of interest; networking, networking, networking. A potential outcome of networking is learning how to find the "hidden job market".
Networking with others is the most effective way to get into the hidden job market. People in given work environments are in a strategic position to assist you with your job search. They learn of openings before they go public. So talk with your family, friends, neighbors and strangers, any one of whom may provide you with the job lead you need. It works!
Doing vounteer work is another proven method for getting to know the hidden job market. Many vounteer opportunities are turned into paid positions.
Your key assets in carrying out a successful job search are persistance, perserverance, and creativity!
